GILL VARLE ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Gill Varle’s love of paper sculpture was born whilst studying at The Art Academy London. A move away from painting into paper sculpture came from an exploration into the concept of being ‘stuck’ in a self made hole. The inability to enjoy the just-beyond-reach Garden of Eden outside her hole translated into ethereal and dreamlike paper sculptures of beautiful, topic and fragile landscapes, made more so by their inaccessibility. As she attempted to free herself, the journey moved into pieces about volition and living ‘on purpose’.
Gill’s spectacular work can be seen in the wedding chapels on selected P&O Cruise Ships including the chapel on the Britannia - the biggest ship built for the British cruise ship market.
